Troop 258
Howell, NJ
Howell, NJ
Troop 258 was chartered in 1992 and has been serving scouts throughout the Howell, New Jersey area since that time . We are part of the Battleground District in the Monmouth Council, and are sponsored by Optimist Club of Howell.
Troop Meetings are held every Wednesday evening from 7:00pm to 8:30pm at the Taunton Elementary School cafeteria, located on Taunton Drive, Howell, New Jersey.
Troop 258 is a traditional scouting unit, with youth leaders supervised by adults. We try to have at least one camping trip per month throughout the school year, in addition to other events such as hiking, biking, snow tubing, and our yearly rafting trip on the Delaware River. We have also attended Sea Base High Adventure camp in the Florida Keys.
We traditionally offer our Scouts the opportunity to earn four merit badges throughout the scouting year; two in the Fall and two in the Spring. Each Fall/Spring we offer four merit badge classes, of which the Scouts have a choice between two Eagle merit badges and two standard merit badges. When in session, merit badge classes are held before each weekly meeting, starting at 6:30pm and running until the start of our formal meeting at 7:15pm.
Our Scouts also attend a BSA sponsored summer camp for a week every year. Summer camp offers Scouts a wide range of experiences such as merit badges, troop competitions, swimming, flag ceremonies, campfires, and outdoor activities. Scouts choose a different summer camp every year so they can experience a variety locations and activities.
With over 30 years of scouting history behind us, Troop 258 is proud to have produced over 100 Eagle Scouts. We are committed to making a difference in the Howell community. Scouts participate in a variety of community service activities, including collecting food for the Howell Food Pantry twice a year.
A goal of Scouts BSA is to help youth develop into responsible adults. Scouting’s values can be incorporated into one’s home or school. Scouts have many opportunities to learn skills of leadership, of the outdoors, and of life. Each Scout decides what they will learn and how quickly they will progress. As a Scout progresses, the value of their achievements will be reinforced through recognition and accomplishments during outdoor adventures.
